PRO BONO ATTORNEYS
The Pro Bono Attorney program is a public-private partnership between the Office of the Public Defender and the Jacksonville Bar Association. This program offers experienced attorneys in the private sector an opportunity to enhance their criminal law skills in the courtroom and fulfill their pro bono requirements for the Florida Bar.
The Office of the Public Defender accepts applications for Pro Bono Attorneys on an ongoing basis.
To enroll as a Pro Bono Attorney, please contact Public Defender Charlie Cofer at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Pro Bono Attorneys are required to complete training held by the Office of the Public Defender prior to enrollment in this program.
- Upon completion of training, Pro Bono Attorneys are appointed as a Special Assistant Public Defender (SAPD) by Public Defender Charlie Cofer and are asked to commit to taking one to two Misdemeanor cases.
Experienced criminal attorneys who wish to enroll in the program to fulfill pro bono hours for the Florida Bar may be assigned higher level cases.
